Delhi has been a great center of political, religious and scientific activities from the ancient times. Many institutions have been established on this scholar-producing and education-friendly land. Seekers of prophetic sciences have been benefiting from these fountain-heads. But throughout this long period not a single institution could be found in Delhi or in its suburb to provide religious education to the Muslim girls. Maulana Mohammed Ilyas Barabankvi felt this shortage seriously.

Thus by hard work and God’s unfathomed grace and mercy, the institution of Jamia Tul Banat al-Islamia was established in the house of Maulana Mohammed Ilyas’s wife at 136/5, Ameer Khusroo Nagar, Vill. Hazrat Nizamuddin Auliya, New Delhi. In the beginning, the institute kept on providing scientific services as Maktab (religious primary school) but the sincere and sympathetic friends of Jamia helped to expand it when they saw that the scientific and religious eagerness is increasing day by day among the Muslim girls. Alhamdu-lillah classes of Arabic, religious and modern education were introduced and thus, the education from elementary class reached to VIth standard (i.e.revision of Hadith) within five years. These classes consist of Tafseer, Hadith and principals of Hadith, Fiqh and principal of Fiqh, Arabic Literature, Urdu Literature, Philosophy, Etymology and Syntax etc. According to the demand of recent times, modern sciences (English, Hindi, mathematics etc. equivalent to 12^th standard) have also been included in the course and the skills of house-keeping is also a part of curriculum. The method of teaching is on preaching pattern so that the graduate students of this institution can also play preaching role in the society in future. We thank God who made the arrangement of education up to the revision of Hadith in the Jamia.

Goals and Basic Principals.

1. To teach Quran, Tafseer, Hadith, Aqeeda, Kalam, Language of Quran (Arabic literature), Urdu literature and other necessary and beneficial arts related to these sciences; and, thus provide complete Islamic teaching. In this way, efforts are made to make the students aware of the harms of modern period, un-Islamic customs and myths.
2. To give the training of Islamic moralities and deeds and to produce Islamic spirit in life.
3. To propagate Islam: safeguarding of religion and services in spreading Islam by writing and speeches. To create moralities, deeds and emotions like Salafe Sualihin and Khariul Quroon through education and propagation among the Muslims.
4. To establish educational and training institutions at various places for spreading education to the Umma’t (public).
5. To spread religious, educational and training awareness among Muslims.
6. To establish hospitals, dispensaries and training camps for public welfare.
